Ernest Mathewson and Patrick Jackson, are both experts in their fields, to undertake investment banking and related finance activities in South Africa and across the globe.
The principal shareholders of Kipanga are Taita Capital and Penrick Capital Markets, the companies through which Ernest and Patrick have historically conducted their respective individual business activities.

Ernest Matthewson

Ernest Matthewson – B.Comm, LLB, HDipCoLaw, MBA Ernest has 2 decade’s worth of diverse experience, including experience in local and foreign markets including
South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, the UK and Asia. During his years of experience, Ernest has honourably held the following positions:

• Head of Corporate Finance for Nedbank Capital, part of Nedbank, one of South Africa’s “big-4” domestic banks. • UK Country Head for Nedbank London. • CEO of Bank PHB (UK), a start-up UK bank and a subsidiary of Bank PHB, a former Nigerian bank. • Head of Investment Banking, Africa, for HSBC

This diverse experience uniquely qualifies Ernest as an advisor, having worked at a large domestic bank, being CEO of the UK branch of the same bank, started up a new UK bank as its CEO, and being responsible for the African investment banking activities for one of the world’s largest banks. Ernest is an admitted attorney, holds an MBA from Wits Business School and is a member of the Institute of Directors Southern Africa (IODSA).

Patrick Briefly

Patrick Jackson

Patrick Jackson holds the degrees of BA from Rhodes University, LLB from Natal University and has an H Dip Tax from RAU and an LLM from the University of Cambridge. He was a partner at Deneys Reitz for 10 years and acted for many South African Investment Banks and international banks. He was a member of the Deneys Reitz Executive and Head of the Tax Department. He joined BoE Merchant Bank in November 1997 as a General Manager in the Structured Finance Division.

In 1998 was appointed head of the newly formed Financial Engineering Division and was appointed to the BOE Merchant Bank Executive Committee. The Financial Engineering Division provided structured and derivative products to institutions and treasury operations. After the merger of Nedbank and BoE, Patrick was appointed Managing Director of Nedbank Capital: Equity Capital Markets. He left Nedbank at the beginning of 2009 and established Penrick Capital Markets (Pty) Ltd. This has led him into the area of corporate restructuring and capital raising for medium sized companies and resulted in him founding Kipanga with Ernest, becoming a director of Capitrain (Pty) Ltd and a founder of Deep Ocean Capital (Pty) Ltd.
